Jim Stumpf retired from the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management after 37 years' experience. During that time, he held a variety of positions in Fire and Aviation Management in Southern California, Washington D.C. and Boise, ID. His last assignment was with the BLM National Fire Program and Policy Office. He served as a wildland fire fighter starting in 1958, assuming additional responsibilities as a Type 1 Incident Commander, Operations and Planning Section Chief, Assistant Area Commander and Area Commander. He is currently working as Planning and Operations Section Chief with the Health and Human and Services, National Disaster Medical System, Management Support Team.
He is active in instruction of the National Incident Management System and has been actively involved with the development and delivery of numerous training courses involving Incident Command and the U.S. Fire Administration Training and National Curriculum development for the U.S. Coast Gurad. Thirty five years lead instructor for NWCG, EMI, and NFA courses outlined as: Advanced Incident Management and Area Command; Command and General staff; Advanced Fire Management, AHIMT course, Advanced Incident Leadership for Agency Administrators, C&G for Local IMT's ; Instructor and Course Coordinator for Multi Agency Coordination Groups. Instructor for I-100 through, I-400, L-280 and ICS for Executives and ICS position courses in: Command, Operations, Planning and Logistics. He is an the Chair NFPA 1140/1051 Fire Committee on Wildland Fire Fighter and Supervisory Standards, member of NFPA 1143 Standards for Wildland Fire and a member of the AHIMT and National Emergency Management Association.
