Mike retired from the Forest Service after 38 years of experience. During that time he held a variety of positions in the Pacific Northwest Region, predominately in hydrology and fire and aviation management. His last few years were spent working for the Washington Office in a detached position focusing on incident management related issues.Mike served seventeen years as a Single Resource and Division Supervisor; twenty years as Type 1 and 2 Incident Commander; Command and General Staff; four years as an Area Commander and Assistant Area Commander; Served on All Hazard incidents including wildland fire, law enforcement, Terrorist (World Trade Center), space shuttle disaster, hurricanes and disease incidents. He is currently on an Area Command Team. He is an instructor, course developer and simulations evaluator for Advanced Incident Management and Area Command. Instructor for I-300, I-400 and Multi Agency Coordination Groups, ICS for Executives and L-280. Lead Instructor for Command and General Staff. Instructor for the USFA AMIMT course and EMI and NWCG position courses. Mike is a member of the National Wildfire Suppression Association, AHIMT Association and National Emergency Management Association.

Mike has a Bachelor of Science and a Master's of Science Degree in Forestry and Watershed Management from the University of Nevada at Reno.
